Tired of Dandruff That Just Won’t Go Away? Try These Simple Scalp Care Tips
Dandruff can be frustrating, especially when those stubborn white flakes keep coming back despite trying different shampoos, creams and even salon treatments. While occasional dandruff is common, persistent flaking may need a more consistent scalp-care routine rather than constantly switching from one product to another.
One of the most important steps is choosing an anti dandruff shampoo that contains proven active ingredients such as ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide or salicylic acid. Apply the shampoo mainly to the scalp, gently massage it in and leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing, as directed on the product label. Using it regularly is often more helpful than using a strong shampoo only once in a while.
Avoid scratching the scalp, even when the itching is intense. Scratching can irritate the skin and may cause small wounds. It is also better to avoid applying heavy oils or multiple hair products directly to a dandruff-prone scalp if they seem to make the flaking or itching worse.
Keep your scalp clean, wash your hair according to your scalp type and avoid sharing combs, towels or other personal hair-care items. If dandruff continues for several weeks, becomes severe, causes redness, swelling, sores or significant hair fall, it is best to consult a dermatologist. Sometimes what looks like ordinary dandruff can actually be seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis or another scalp condition that needs specific treatment. With the right shampoo, a consistent routine and proper scalp care, those persistent flakes can be managed much more effectively.
