Don’t Wash a Hot Non-Stick Pan with Cold Water
Non-stick pans are a popular choice in many kitchens as they make cooking easier and require less oil. However, using them incorrectly can affect the coating and reduce the life of the pan. One common mistake is pouring water over a hot non-stick pan immediately after cooking. The sudden change in temperature can cause thermal shock and may damage or warp the pan over time. Let the pan cool down naturally before washing it.
Avoid pouring cold water on a hot pan
Never put a hot non-stick pan directly under running cold water. Allow it to cool first and then wash it gently with water and a mild dishwashing liquid.
Don’t use metal utensils
Metal spoons, spatulas and sharp-edged utensils can scratch the non-stick coating. Use wooden, silicone or other non-abrasive utensils instead.
Avoid high heat
Non-stick cookware generally works best on low to medium heat. Constantly using very high heat can damage the coating and may shorten the lifespan of the pan.
Don’t use abrasive scrubbers
Harsh scrubbers and strong cleaning products can damage the surface. Use a soft sponge to clean the pan and avoid aggressive scrubbing.
Don’t stack pans carelessly
If you store multiple pans one on top of another, the bottom of one pan can scratch the coating of another. If stacking is necessary, place a soft cloth or pan protector between them.
Use the right amount of oil
Non-stick cookware is designed to require less oil, but following the manufacturer’s instructions is important. Avoid heating an empty pan for a long time.
How to keep your non-stick pan in good condition
Allow the pan to cool naturally after cooking, clean it gently, use suitable utensils and avoid excessive heat. Proper care can help maintain the non-stick surface and extend the useful life of the cookware.
